NN777 Baccarat Card Counting: What a Count Would Actually Change
Baccarat card counting does not work the way blackjack counting does.
- NN777 Card Suits
- A standard deck has four card suits, spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs, with 13 cards each.
- NN777 Five Card Draw
- Five card draw deals every player five private cards, runs a betting round, lets each player discard and replace some cards in the draw, then runs a second betting round and a showdown.
- NN777 Hi Lo Card Game
- In a hi lo card game you bet whether the next card is higher or lower than the one showing.
- NN777 How to Play Pusoy
- To play pusoy, you take 13 cards and arrange into a 3-card front hand and two 5-card hands, middle and back.
- NN777 Martingale Baccarat
- A martingale in baccarat doubles the stake after each loss, so a ₱100 unit needs ₱6,400 on the seventh bet.
- NN777 Pontoon Card Game
- The pontoon card game is a 21-point game like blackjack, but both dealer cards are customarily face down, hitting is called twist, standing is stick, and a pontoon or five-card trick pays more than an ordinary win.
- NN777 Sic Bo Strategy
- A sic bo strategy is a choice of bets, not a pattern: three dice give 216 outcomes, and on the example payouts Small and Big cost the least per peso staked, at 2.78%.
- NN777 Texas Hold Em
- Texas hold em gives each player two private cards, then deals five shared cards in three stages: the flop, the turn and the river.
Baccarat card counting means tracking which cards have left the shoe so you can guess what comes next. In blackjack that works because you choose how to play each hand. Baccarat takes every choice away, so a count has very little to act on. The rest of this page shows why with plain arithmetic, and the broader table games list for NN777 players shows where baccarat sits among the other card and dice games.
Why baccarat card counting differs from blackjack
A count is only worth something if it changes what you do. The table compares the two games on that point.
| Feature | Blackjack | Baccarat |
|---|---|---|
| Playing choices | hit, stand, double, split | none, the third card follows fixed rules |
| What the count changes | bet size and playing decisions | only which of three bets you back |
| Sensitivity to removed cards | strong for tens and aces | small for every card value |
| Number of decks, commonly | one to eight | eight |
In baccarat the only decision is the bet itself: Player, Banker or Tie. The cards then fall by the third-card rule whatever you hoped for. That is why a count has so little to push.
What one hand removes from an eight-deck shoe
Baccarat is commonly dealt from eight decks, which is 8 × 52 = 416 cards. Tens and picture cards all count as zero, so 16 of every 52 cards are zero-value, and the shoe holds 8 × 16 = 128 of them. Their share is 128 / 416, about 30.77%.
Now take an extreme hand: it deals out five cards and all five are zero-value. The shoe becomes 411 cards with 123 zero-value cards, and the share is 123 / 411, about 29.93%. A hand that removed only zero-value cards, the most lopsided case, moved the share by about 0.84 percentage points.
Most hands remove a mix of values, so the real shifts are smaller than that. You would need many hands of the same lean before the shoe tilts far enough to matter. By then the shoe is nearly dealt out.
What a count would change
A count would change at most three things, and none of them is large.
- The relative chance of Player against Banker moves by a sliver, so one side looks marginally better.
- The Tie bet is affected a little more, because it needs both totals to match, but it is a bet with a much larger house edge to overcome.
- Your bet size could rise or fall with the count, which is the only lever left, and the table’s maximum caps how far it can go.
None of these turns a game with a built-in house edge into one with a player edge on its own. Where the count helps most, in blackjack, the player also gets to choose actions. Compare that with the traditional dealer-led structure of the pontoon card game and its choices, where you decide whether to twist or stick.
What to check before you rely on any count
A count also depends on how the table handles its shoe. When the table reshuffles, how many cards stay unplayed behind the cut card, and whether you see every card are all decisions the table makes.
- Open the game’s information screen and read its rules.
- Find out how many decks the table uses.
- Check the minimum and maximum bet, since both limit how much a count could be worth.
- Decide your session budget in pesos before the first hand and keep to it.
Games where you do make choices reward attention more directly. How five card draw rewards your choices is a good example of a game where what you keep and what you discard changes the result.

FAQ
Does card counting work in baccarat?
Not in the way it does in blackjack. The third card is drawn by fixed rules, so you never choose to hit, stand or double. A count can only shift the odds of the three bets slightly.
Why does removing cards change baccarat odds only a little?
A shoe is large and one hand removes only a handful of cards. After five zero-value cards leave an eight-deck shoe, the share of zero-value cards moves by under one percentage point.
Ano ang card values sa baccarat?
Aces count as 1, cards from 2 to 9 count at face value, and tens and picture cards count as 0. A hand's total is the last digit of the sum.
Can I count cards at a live baccarat table?
How a shoe is dealt and when it is reshuffled is the table's choice. Open the game's information screen and read its rules before you rely on any count.
